Hey all,
It’s a lovely day and I am up with yet another makeup
product review. This time it’s the Make Up For Ever (MUFE) HD High Definition
Foundation. MUFE HD Foundation promises high definition coverage, with a natural
makeup finish, making you look flawless. Its an oil-free, medium to full
coverage liquid foundation that looks invisible on-screen and in real life.
Foundation is a key in pulling everything together for a
flawless makeup application. Before I was a beauty blogger – before I even knew
there was such a thing as beauty blogger, I was a normal girl with tremendous
love for makeup. Over the years, I have tried more than my share of foundations
from drugstore to high-end to professional. While I tossed out many, some made
way to my beauty kit. That being said, I always had certain issues with all of
them, some being cakey, others being dry or oxidizing. I wanted a foundation
that provided me medium to full coverage but feels light on skin and does not
oxidizes.
After much research, reading reviews and handful of
swatches, I decided to try the much hyped MUFE HD Foundation. (Tip: research
and read as many reviews as you can before investing in high end or
professional makeup. It surely does help and lessens the possibilities of you
regretting it later). The day I switched to MUFE HD Foundation, I knew I was never going to return back. Unfortunately, this HD Foundation has been
discontinued by Make Up For Ever recently, as they have launched a new Ultra HD
version of it with much improved formula.
About Make Up ForEver
A professor at heart and a makeup artist by passion,
Dany Sanz established Make Up For Ever in 1984. Drawing its inspiration from
the needs of back stage makeup artists around the world, Make Up For Ever was a
brand created by the pro for the pros. The high tech formulas used in the
making of products are on the cutting edge of innovation and are the centre of
attraction. Whether we talk about makeup in Magazines, on stage or on Screen,
Make Up For Ever has been and continues to be the indispensible backstage
brand.
With its first factory established in Paris, Make Up
For Ever now has it's reach over 50 countries and has received numerous accolades from professional makeup artists around the world. With its
collaboration with Sephora in 1996, the brand was made available to public who,
like makeup artists were gaga over the high technology and quality of the
formulas used. Apart from curating professional makeup products, Make Up For
Ever also runs an Academy for the established and aspiring makeup artists
around the world.

Its usually smooth and elastic texture makes it easy to apply and a pleasure to
wear.
Skin texture is refined to give a very natural complexion.
What’s all the
fuss about MUFE HD foundation and HD Makeup?
As a beauty reviewer, I enjoy the fact that I can share my
honest reviews about any product through my blog. I have my own set of
standards and limitations to judge a product on, before giving it a Pass or a
Toss! But that only comes after I have tried the product and given it enough
time to settle with. I try to make it as honest as possible. I would also like to add that some products getting a thumbs up from me,
might not work for some and vice-versa, only because we all are blessed with
different skin and textures.
There has been quite a controversy running around MUFE HD
Foundation. With makeup artists to wide public raving about this product and a
celebrity endorsement from Kim Kardashian in its kitty, MUFE HD foundation has
tasted some backlash as well. Sometimes its not the product, but people who
fail to understand their skin textures and are ignorant about ingredients.
Adding to that is even the commercial world and manufacturers who use heavy
technical terms like HD, ultra-protective, glow-boosting, light diminishing to
manifest a wide customer range.
But why we fall prey to such claims? It would not be wrong
to say that we live in a world where #Selfie is a standard to judge a beauty!
Everyone is all time ready to take a ‘photo’ and upload it on social media for
the world to see. With the trending “No makeup” makeup look, everyone wants a
piece of pie. With our cameras getting more advanced in technology, makeup
products demanded a revamp and there entered HD makeup! That promised the
craved invisible makeup look. But it came with dabbing layer over layer of HD
foundations, concealer, contouring and highlighting and what not! And whatever
seems to fall in these HD norms, we fell prey to it without considering our
own skin needs and when it fails to work, people go all bad about it.
To avoid such disappointments, its really important to know your skin type before
trying on any product. Do your research well. Read lot of reviews before you
shell out a heavy amount on any high end or professional make up brand.
Packaging
MUFE HD Foundation comes in a black and transparent plastic
bottle with a pump that dispenses the desired amount of product needed and
makes the process very hygienic. It’s easy to track its usage due to the
transparent container. The only drawback I feel is the plastic packaging, which
is a disappointment especially for what it costs.
It retails for INR 4,000 for 30 ml. In India its available exclusively at Sephora outlets and the good news is that you can now shop Sephora products from its Indian website which was recently launched.
My Experience
with Make Up For Ever HD Foundation
I have shade N120 of HD Foundation from MUFE. What sets
this foundation apart from all others that I’ve tried is its perfect
combination of coverage and finish. Created to give an invisible finish to the
naked eye and on cameras, this foundation is perfect for any special event,
daytime wear or for shoots.
Formula
There has been given a lot of thought and attention in
creating this HD foundation. The formula is of even consistency and does not get
watery over time unlike other foundations. The formula of this foundation is a
blend of water and silicon, free from oil and grease that makes it perfect for
all skin types. It prevents oil build up throughout the day and prevents any
breakouts, itchiness or skin irritation. However, people with sensitive skin,
should pay a special attention to any ingredient that is likely to cause them
any reaction.
Coverage & Finish
I am not a great fan of heavy layering or contouring when
it comes to applying base for makeup and hence, try my best to stay away from
products which require layer after layer buildup. For me, an ideal foundation
is one that provides full coverage in one single layer and feels light on skin.
This HD Foundation seems to be an answer for all my needs.
It’s a medium to full coverage foundation which is
pigmented enough to conceal any skin concerns. One layer stippled with brush
neutralizes any redness, blemishes or mild skin imperfections, while you might
require a second layer for covering acne, dark spots or scars. The skin feels
smooth, elastic and moisturized. It doesn’t look heavy at all and bestows a
natural matte finish which looks like a real skin.
Having applied this foundation both with primer and without
primer, I can hardly spot any difference in the overall finish. Since it
already has silica in it, it evenly hides all fines lines and patches without
the need of a primer. Its formula blurs imperfections and catches light,
intensifying the glow.
Application
For its application I only go by my Sigma 3DHD Kabuki Brush
which is one of the best selling patented product of Sigma Beauty and easily blends this foundation. You can buy it here.
I start applying foundation from the centre of my face going outwards to the
jawline, edges of the face and neck. The small amount of foundation covers the
entire face, hence you save a lot on the product. With its silica based formula
and satin- matte finish, I feel it to be suitable for normal and oily skin.
If you have a dry skin, you might find it a bit difficult
to blend as it dries very fast. Still if you want to give it a try, prep your
skin well with moisturizer and a water/silica based primer, which will ensure
its easy application.
Once applied, the foundation stays for good 5 – 6 hours
without oxidizing. There have been days where I had applied this foundation for
good 8 to 9 hours, but it had never disappointed me. It does not break or looks flakey and has
never given me breakouts. It gives a satin-dewy finish instead of a matte one
and does look like you are not wearing a foundation at all.
Overall, this foundation is my Holy Grail product for any
event. Since it has been discontinued, I might shift to the Ultra version of
it. Hope this review helps those who are pondering over the purchase of a
professional foundation but I would still stress on doing your research. You can always have a comparison run between MAC, Make
Up For Ever and Bobbi Brown foundations, since they are known to be the best
and cult favorites and the best part is that, product from these three brands
goes well with one another.
Till next time
Stay Happy, Stay Chic!
Much love ๐
