Hi loves!
Hope you all are doing great.
The Pearl Mask from SEPHORA Collection
was an impulsive buy while I waited in a long queue at the checkout counter.
After looking briefly at the selection of masks available, I grabbed the Pearl
variant simply out of curiosity. I have used masks from other brands before and
was excited to try this one. For the price it retails for (INR 400 per mask
sheet) it ought to do me some good.
This
mask is supposed to be for perfecting and brightening. I definitely noticed a
glow after I took the mask off but I am not exactly sure what perfected would
be. It was moisturizing like other face masks but it was difficult to notice
any blemish lightening after its single use. May be that’s the thing with
masks, their effects can be noticed only after they are used over a consistent
period of time.
I
do wonder at times about pearls added into cosmetics as ‘luminizers’, but is
there any science related to the claim of it being a corrective for skin
blemishes? I did a bit of research and was happy to know that pearl extracts
has been ingested and used as an anti-ageing treatment over 2000 years in
China. One more study shows that pearl extracts improves the functioning of
fibroblast cells. Although the results are not conclusive, but it surely stands
a chance! So now that science has enlightened us about pearls, let’s see if
this sheet mask was good enough.
Product Description and Packaging:
Sephora
Pearl Mask is a fiber mask sheet with pearl and broccoli extracts that reduces
dark spots and blemishes while evening out the complexion. It is claimed to be
inspired by the Asian beauty rituals, featuring an ultra-fine textile base that
hugs the face contours like a second skin, allowing better penetration of
active ingredients and targeted solutions for specific types of skin issues.
The good part is that it is Paraben free. It is quick and easy to use.
The
Sephora Pearl Face Mask comes in a single use pink plastic pouch pack. The actual
sheet is quite thin and comes wrapped in an outer thick fabric encasing
drenched in the serum which is in generous quantity. I initially thought the
outer fabric encasing to be a second mask sheet and was happy to get two of
them, but was disappointed later. Also the fabric covering wastes a good amount
of liquid serum since it is completely soaked in it. I generally don’t throw
away the pouches and store them in refrigerators, as the serum left in it is
good enough to be used for next 2-3 days.
It retails for
INR 400 for 22 g of product.
Direction of use:
·
Unfold the mask
·
Apply it on to a
clean and toned face for 15-20 minutes.
·
Remove the mask
and massage the excess product to be deeply soaked up by skin.
·
Do not rinse.
My experience with Sephora Pearl Mask
I
have been using sheet masks from The Face Shop, Mond’Sub and Innisfree. I had
reviewed The Face Shop’s sheet masks and found them to be quite hydrating (read
its review here). Blessed with a clear skin I do have some pores on my nose to
which these sheet masks did nothing.
While
using the Sephora one, I was really pleased by its fragrance. Though it is
chemical in nature but was mild and calming. One thing I was really happy about
was that Sephora mask fit my face perfectly, unlike the others from The Face Shop or Innisfree that are too large and restricts my movement. The sheet
however did not retain enough serum, all thanks to the extra fiber casing. Due
to less liquid, it started drying after 15 minutes.
As
mentioned earlier, I definitely noticed a brightening glow after the sheet was
removed. It hydrated my skin completely and the serum was not heavy or sticky
in texture, but was light and was easily soaked by the skin. I also did felt my
skin being tightened after its immediate use but it did nothing to the pores on
my nose. There was no evening of the skin tone or lightening of my blemishes,
also the glow was very short lived unlike The Face Shop's sheet masks which
imparted luminous effect for a day.
Contrary
to its Paraben free nature, this sheet mask is loaded with chemicals, after
which I now doubt its claim of infused natural pearl extracts. This mask was
definitely not worth the price it retails for and considering the brand it
comes from, it was surely a miss. I might never use it again or any other variants
of Sephora Masks in near future.
Till
next time,
Much
love to all!
