4 DIY Homemade Face Masks for Glowing Skin!

Hey my people!

Hope you all had lovely Raksha Bandhan celebrations!

This time I have brought for you a skincare post which was due for upload from quiet a long time. In this post I will be talking about my 4 homemade skincare packs or masks that I usually swear by in summers and monsoons, addressing to different skin issues like pigmentation, sunburn, blemishes, acne, oily and flaky skin. These packs are quite simple and are made from readily available household ingredients. Contrast to their simple nature these face masks provide a broad spectrum of skin benefits.

Summers and monsoons are known to be not-so-good for skin. We deal with numerous skin issues right from sun tan to breakouts and to top the list is pollution. To avoid these and to be in our glowing best, we keep splurging exorbitantly on our local spas and on products that God only knows what chemicals they are loaded with, without realizing that secret to healthy and beautiful skin is as close as our kitchen, full with nature’s goodness. I always rely on herbal and natural ways to keep my skin healthy and beautiful; they are my go to remedies for all skin related issues. The herbal ingredients not only hydrate and rejuvenate the skin but also have proven to be a boon for all skin related problems from time immemorial.

Since I have a combination skin (dry and oily in different parts of the face) all the four packs will be best suited for the people of same skin type. To make it more skin specific, dry and oily skin people can add or omit certain ingredients, which I have mentioned in the end of each mask.

Besan, Turmeric, Cucumber and Curd Face Pack

What it does
Besan or Gram flour is a grounded form of Chick Pea and is rich in nutrients and fiber. It has extraordinary skin benefits and is a solution for all skin problems.

It’s a natural exfoliant that removes dead cells from skin and removes sun tan. Along with its deep cleansing properties, it also reduces blemishes and pigmentation. Its also a natural oil absorbent that removes excess oil. You can double the benefits of this face pack by adding lemon to it.

Besan with Cucumber tightens the skin and reduces the pore size. Apply it for 3 weeks consecutively and you will notice reduced clogged pores. Since both Besan and Curd consists of anti-inflammatory components, they help in soothing the sun burns and give relief from itchy and dry skin.

Turmeric is a natural antiseptic that fight pimples and breakouts. Both Turmeric and Curd imparts a healthy and shiny glow to skin. Likewise, salt when added to any face mask or scrub, helps in killing germs and removes dirt and deep rooted grime, making skin clearer and acne free.

Method:

1.    Grate one cucumber and squeeze the juice from its pulp

2.       Store the juice in refrigerator
3.       In two tablespoons of Besan, add ½ teaspoon of Haldi (Turmeric) and a pinch of salt.
4.       Add one tablespoon of cucumber juice.
5.       Add curd in enough quantity to form a paste.
6.       Apply it over face and neck. Let it dry for 15 minutes.
7.       With little water applied on face, start scrubbing the dried face pack gently in circular motions.
8.       Wash and pat dry.
9.       Apply your daily moisturizer.

This pack is best suited for combination and oily skin.

As Besan naturally absorbs oil and sebum from skin and makes it dry, it can be too drying for dry skin people. People with such skin can substitute curd with raw milk or honey which will balance it out.

Curd & Oatmeal Scrub

What it does
Curd is a wonderful source of lactic acid that removes dead cells and is a natural moisturizer, anti - tan and anti-ageing. It cleanses the skin, tone freckles and wrinkles and minimizes blemishes.
Curd has antioxidants and is rich in vitamin C, zinc and calcium which adds to the health of skin, imparting it healthy glow and at the same time fights breakouts and acne.
Oats are effective in fighting dull, flaky and dry skin as they contain polysaccharides which becomes gelatinous in water and forms a fine protective film when applied on skin. They also have anti-inflammatory properties and are effective in treating itchiness, scaling and sunburn.

Method:

1.       Add one tablespoon of olive oil in three tablespoons of curd.

2.       Add oats and keep the mixture aside till oats absorb the curd and gets little soft.
3.       Apply the mixture over face, neck and other body parts and scrub for 6 to 7 minutes in circular motions.
4.       Wash it off with lukewarm water and then by cold water.

Baking Soda Face Pack

What it does
Baking soda for me is an all in one natural skin care ingredient and is my holy grail when it comes to remove tanning or even swim tan.
Baking soda is composed of sodium and a pH neutralizer which exfoliates the dead skin cells throughout the skin and neutralizes its acid-alkaline nature.
Regular application of baking soda lightens the skin tone and makes it softer and shinier. It has anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties that clear all the infections along with its scars. It is also a good absorbing agent and clears excess oil.

Method:

1.       Take one tablespoon of baking soda

2.       To this add water in enough quantity that will give the mixture a thick paste like consistency and not a flowy one.
3.       Apply this thick paste on face and neck for not more than 10 minutes.
4.       Gently scrub it and wash it off with cold water.

It is suited for all skin types.
Oily skin – substitute water with rose water or butter milk.
Dry skin – substitute water with honey.

Mint Face Pack

What it does
Mint is an excellent herb when it comes to skin care.  Its really great for sensitive skin and has been known for treating severe acne as it contains salicylic acid. It works on most types of acne and reduces it without any side effects. Due to presence of salicylic acid it is also great for controlling oil.
Apart from acne and oil control, mint also treats mosquito bites and other irritants. It is used to calm dry and itchy skin due to its anti-inflammatory properties.

Method:

This paste is very simple to make. Grind mint leaves to form a paste. To this paste add rosewater and one tablespoon of olive oil. Apply for 20 minutes on face and wash off.

Suited for
It is suited for all skin types and is highly recommended to oily skin people.

So these were my four natural face packs which I generally stick to for having a healthy clean skin. Do let me know what you guys think of these. Also you can share your homemade secrets too in the comment box below.

Till next time, stay beautiful my people. Always remember to take out that extra time and pamper yourself, because you matter, your happiness matters!!

With much love

Basic skincare routine in your early 20s

Why a beauty regime in my 20s, when my skin is young and healthy naturally! Research shows that two structural proteins, collagen (responsible for keeping skin firm and tight) and elastin (responsible for skin’s flexibility) starts decreasing as soon as you touch 25 years. A skincare routine set  early and followed religiously, when  your skin is healthy and quite youthful naturally, will help you combat the early signs of ageing and will set a foundation for glowing and nourished skin in your 30s, 40s and 50s. While you need not to get fancy about products addressing specific issues (until its acne) at this stage, some basic affordable products along with few natural household ingredients are everything that you need for an effective routine. Know your skin Before you step on to nail a beauty regime, it is must to know your skin type and the products that will work best on it.
